GREEN Level – 78-Foot Court

Programming

Your child will be introduced to the game of tennis on a 78-foot court (full court). Court management, player style, physical, mental, and social skills will be developed. The focus will be on holding serve, specialty shots, decision making, and increased athletic development.

THE TOTAL GAME

  • Consistency – Ball Control – Shot Selections: DNA – Defend, Neutralize, and Attack
  • Developing various shots as weapons
  • Identify opponent’s weakness and learn how to work the point
  • Use various serves and return of serve to set up and gain control of the point
  • Learn how to use slice, chip, touch shots, and offensive lobs
  • Advanced Movement – court coverage, strategic positioning, and recovery on a big court with the faster ball
  • Learn how to play doubles, court positioning, using angles
  • Athletic development – increase agility, balance, coordination, speed, and strength​
  • Manage adolescent development – pre- and post-puberty

Goal: Preparation for Singles and Doubles Match play on a 78-foot court

Match Play Criteria

  • Serve 7 of 10 balls in, aiming to both sides of the court
  • Cooperative Partner Rally 50-ball exchange
  • Able to receive and return serves
  • Focus for 10-20 minutes
  • Match is 10-point tiebreaker – First to 10 points wins.

Move Up Criteria: to move up to the Yellow Level

Players must practice with the Yellow Ball in order to perform the following skills, and their coach must verify.

  • Partner Rally – 50-Ball exchange with Yellow Balls on 78’ court, including forehand and backhand strokes
  • Serve 5 out of 10 Yellow balls in, aiming to both deuce and ad courts
  • Demonstrate how to neutralize points and take control of the point
  • Control and send the ball to the open court using topspin and slice
  • Place volleys to the open court and hit overhead shots
  • Show excellent sportsmanship, court etiquette, and become a mentor to other students
  • Tactics: Play with control, able to make decisions, shot selection, use the open court
  • Appropriate age and height – Coach approval required
